I picked up a Lite-On NA-115 motherboard very cheaply. It's a Pentium 4 mobo
with an i845 chipset. Everything is great except for one little problem.

The problem is that I can't get the front-mounted USB ports to work.
Everytime I plug a device into the front USB ports, I get a red X in device
manager. When I plug the same device into the standard USB ports built into
the motherboard on the back of the case, they pop right up and work fine.

I verified the wiring from the front of my Antec case and each pin is
connected correctly on the motherboard header. The CD that came with the
motherboard has no USB drivers on it, and Lite-On's site is worthless. I'm
running Windows Me on this particular machine.

Any ideas?

Another case of good quality hardware being nearly ruined by poor
documentation. The USB + and - data connections are reversed in the
motherboard manual's diagram! <sigh> Why do companies spend so much on
engineering and development, but then won't spend the comparatively
insignificant money to hire a few technical writers? You have to wonder how
much business suffers (due to loss of goodwill, increased number of calls to
tech support, etc.) solely because of poor product documentation?
Unbelievable.
