When I did a search (for example, by Google on my home page) I used to get a
listing of similar searches that were done. Now there is nothing. How would
I get those back?

If you are talking about the the search box in the middle of the
Google page where you type in your item of interest, there is a
Preferences link on the right side of the Google search box that when
clicked will open another window and near the bottom you will see
something like:
Query Suggestions Provide query suggestions in the search box.
Do not provide query suggestions in
the search box.
There are other preferences you can choose.
You can choose other Google preferences and then be sure to scroll
down and click the Save Preference button.
Remember, you are only setting up Google preferences.
I personally can't stand it, so mine is turned off and Google makes no
suggestions for me.
