linux to xp

Hello, I have used this group many times before with great success.
I have been given an Asus Eee PC 701SD, that has Linux Xandros as its
operating system.
I am unsure of the age of this little pc, but would like to know if I
can wipe it and install XP home ed?
I have an external optical drive and an XP disk. Will it boot from a
usb drive? The only thing listed in the set-up is the 8gb ssd.
What about the bios, will I run into any conflicts? Any info you can
supply would be terrific.
thanks for you interest.

There are web sites dedicated to Eee. If there are problems
installing WinXP (such as missing drivers or whatever),
you'd want to read the postings here. Plenty of clever
people have installed alternate OSes on their machines.
It's just a matter of dealing with the tiny storage
facilities (turning off System Restore, trimming
size of Pagefile, and so on).

You can probably just install XP but, you can also just and have it
format the drive.  It may not boot from the USB, I know that my system
will not boot from a usb drive.  I think you would have no problems with
the BIOS unless the CMOS battery is dead--just replace it and reset the
time if it is bad.  I am guessing you would get a CMOS error if the
battery is bad.

So, I ended up finding a website that showed me how to remove the user
password that had this pc locked up. I don't think I will bother with
the xp install. The Linux is ok for now, but maybe in the near future
I will give it a go. Thanks for your responses.

The Linux variant will please you more than Windows. Windows is only
necessary if there are apps you need that only have Windows options.
Linux on the Asus is quite a snappy little OS and you'll have fewer
security issues to boot!

A friend of mine has an early Asus EeePC, probably the same as yours,
with Linux preinstalled and she is quite happy with it. Screen and
keyboard are both too small for me but no problem for her. Even though
it's now quite old and dated compared to current offerings, she still
prefers to tote it with her everywhere she goes.

I put Linux Mint 9 on mine and find it works wonderfully. Big
improvement over the Xandros. More applications and updates as well.
