Links in IE lock up

I have XP pro, and in IE, some links freeze the program up and will not
follow the link. This just started happening out of the blue. (Possibly
after removing some things that yahoo anti spy found) sometimes it's to a
Word DOC file and sometimes it's to a link in an email i received. On some
links there is no problem at all. I beleive all html link targets come up.
but the email link was to a picture.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
