links in email

I hope someone will be able to help me. I use vista and windows mail.
Whenever I receive an email with a link I cannot open the appropriate
address by clicking the link. Evidently the link cannot recognize the
address. I know it has worked in the past and I don't know what happened. I
have tried to set windows mail the default mail but whenever I attempt to
change a setting in the default menu, it just reverts back to original
setting which is use present mail program. I am not sure if this is problem
or not. Can anyone tell me what change I need to make in order to get my
email links to work. Thank you. Louise

Your problem is not with the defaults for Windows Mail
but with the defaults for your browser. Assuming that is IE:

Sounds like Windows Mail doesn't have all its defaults.
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Internet
Explorer". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.
