Links fail to open in a New Window.

I am using IE 6 sp 1 on XP Pro sp1
When I am in IE and click on a link which would normally
open the link in a new window (For example this 'Post a
New Message' window), IE hangs for about 3 minutes, the
window fails to open and I am eventually returned to the
original page.
I can manually open new windows from the browser (Cntr+N)
without any trouble.
Anyone got any idea how this can be solved?
