Linking to Word .DOT files

G

Greg Smith

I am creating an intranet web using FrontPage for our
company. I would like to place a link on a web page which
will open a standard office form which was created as a
Microsoft Word template (.dot file). Currently as I have
it set up the link will open the dot file within Word but
will not allow me to save as a doc. The only option is to
save it as a dot. The link is only valuable if the user
can input data into the template and save it as a separate
document.

Anyone having any experience with this your help would be
appreciated.

Thanks

You need to either use .hta
See http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnie50/html/ie5hta.asp
Or set your server / user PCs to open the links in their MSO application
See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=162059
