Linking a style

I have created a style that I will be using for all of my documents. The
problem is seven volumes have already been written and now I need to apply my
style to them. (1) How do I link (?) my style to these documents, and (2) is
there a method to automatically convert a current style to another style
without having to do it manually, heady-by-heading?

Hi Gene,

You don't link to a new style in my opinion.
If you are sure that you have used specific style in your seven volumes
(this may be built in style or earlier created by yourself), if you just
modify it, all the changes should be done automatically.

Go to Format--> Styles and Formatting

All the existing styles will be listed. Select the style you want to change
and right click on it. Select modify, apply the settings and it should work.

"style" has a very narrow meaning in Word. You probably have at least a
couple of styles that define your template.

Yours is a pretty classic situation. Usually, it is indeed faster to
create a new document based on your template, then bring the old content
into this file and "style" it once (apply the correct style paragraph
per paragraph).

You can use search/replace or, for frequent usage (or if you are a
proficient coder in Word), code (VBA) to speed up the restyling, but a
fully automated process is not found yet, I reckon. [IOW: the
meta-information about what style any given paragraph has to be
formatted with is simply not there, certainly not in the typical PDF
document.]
