I just reloaded a co-worker's Dell Optiplex from his recovery disk. He as a 15" Dell LCD. Now the vidio driver has only a VGA option and is limited to 16 colors after the re-install. When when I try to update the driver, the update button is grayed out and not available, even when logged in as administrator. How can I update the video drive when the option is greyed out?

Hello,

Try installing the driver thru Add/Remove Hardware.

I am betting you have the standard VGA adapter installed what you will need
to do is add new hardware. I belive the Dell uses the ATI Video in which
there should be a setup program to run. Running the video setup program will
take care of installing the hardware and the drivers for you.

Use the Drivers and Utilities CD that came with the Dell to install the
video driver, but install the chipset driver first, then video, network
and sound drivers. It's not too hard, the CD will autorun, an HTML based
interface comes up and it will detect your hardware, just read and click
on the right things. Make sure you either remove the CD before the
restart after the chipset driver installs or that the BIOS is not set to
boot from CD or you may wind up booting into a Diagnostics mode from the CD.
