limited or no connect on lan network

Win XP SP2.
Broadcom integrated Ethernet Controller 440x.
I have the latest updates and drivers installed.
I have a Physical address, an IP address and a Subnet Mask address.
I have tried everthing posted here sofar and nothing helped.
I still get the "Problem occured because the network did not assign a
network address to the computer" error.

Any Help?

That message means that:

1. The network connection is configured to obtain an IP address
automatically, and:

2. It was unable to communicate with a DHCP server on the network to
get the address.

After waiting for about a minute for a DHCP server to respond, Windows
XP gives up and assigns itself an IP address in the 169.254.x.x range.

Make sure that there's a DHCP server on the network. In a home
network, that's usually provided by a broadband router or ICS host
computer.

Check the Ethernet cable and the hub/switch/router port that the
computer connects to. For more suggestions, see:
