LG optical drive reads at 40X instead of 52X

I have two LG optical drives, a CD-RW (GCE 8525B) and a DVD-ROM
(GDR8162B). The writer is rated at 52X read speed and the DVD at 48X,
yet both seem to be limited to 40X maximum (read speed) regardless of
the type of CD used. I've found one website that recognized this as an
issue with LG drives, but that's it. I'm wondering if anybody else has
experienced this problem, and if this is common to all LG CD/DVD drives.
Is it because most CDs cannot be read at 52X? Do other brands' drives
have this problem?

TIA,
alex

Those high speeds are never made real. If You get a true (measured)
40-speed, be very happy with it.
