Lexmark Laser Printer, good choice over HP and Brother?

Hi:
I have always used HP printers, and they have worked good enough.
8 months ago we bought 2 Brother HL-1440, and they are both broken now.

So I'm deciding on going back to HP. But I have seen very good prices and
Lexmark Laser Printers. Are they a good choice? any experience? or should I
keep in the HP way.

Thanks,
Miguel

Well, I am on my second Lexmark in 11/2 yrs., the first was a Z35 and ended
up with paperfeeding problems which Lexmark wasn't much help with, the
second is a X75 Print Trio which is ok, so far. My sister has a Lexmark X74
Three in one that has been plagued with problems, including driver problems.
My brother has an HP (not sure which model) and the only problem he has had
is running out of ink (common with high usage). One of the main issues I
have with the Lexmark printers is how small the printer cartridges are and
the price of them are way too high. IMHO, I think the HP prints out much
better than the Lexmark, much higher quality and the ink cartridges are much
larger for around the same price. I have come to the conclusion that you
definately get what you pay for when it comes to printers.

My friend mentioned just about the same thing about the Lexmark -
inexpensive to get in, but they get you with the ink cartridges.

BTW, I have a Brother Multi-function 5100C, but non-laser (inkjet).
An older model, being hi-tech in it's day. It's a factory rebuild
(they had loads of them). This should tell you something (that they
didn't even design it right in the 1st place.

It was a really good deal though, and thankfully I paid out some extra
bucks to get a 2 year warrantee vs the 3 month they offered (never
ever buy anything with a 3 month warrantee I say now). So it broke,
and not after much use. The printer part was fine, but the scanning
light/bar of the copier part got stuck in the bottom position and
would not reset back to the top). After they sent it back, a month
later they tell me it can't be fixed. I end up keeping the temp
replacement, which was right out of the box (not used by anyone else).
But this time I never shut it off. I think it is happier always being
on. It is a fax machine too, so maybe it is better anyway to leave
it on (fingers crossed).

Anyway, if it were me, I'd go HP all of the way.
