X83 was withdrawn from sale (USA) in 2002.
(according to the Lexmark site)
Lexmark says "if it's not on the list as 'coming soon'
then it will not get a Vista driver".
Sorry about that. I use Lexmark printers
and am waiting for the Vista drivers to hit
the download site, for future use. Fortunately my printers are
on the list and I feel for you not having a Vista driver.

If you haven't already done so, ?? perhaps a Windows 2000
driver (might) work. Worth a try !

I guess I have to go out and buy a new vista ready printer because my lexmark
is in the coming soon category and you cannot contact customer support. I
don't think I will be buying another lexmark.

I remember that similar story when XP came out!

On the subject of Printers there is an all in one Epson DX5000 in my local
Currys for 99.00 Euro. I have always liked Epson printers.

I went on the Epson Website yesterday to see if it would be Vista compatible
or if they had vista drivers listed up there and all they had listed was
24-pin generic driver 6.1a whatever that might be (to me it just sound like
a makeshift general driver and not a proper one for Vista) and there was
nothing under the software for it under Vista yesterday. Anyway checked
there this evening and they have added Epson Creativity Suite ECS _2.1 so
that weren't there last night. Maybe they are in the middle of bringing out
software for this printer to run with Vista then? - however alarm bells are
ringing with me because there is nothing for Epson Scan and the Card Reader
drivers when you look which makes me think do you use the ones they have for
XP or do you hang on until they have Epson Scan and the other software
listed under their Vista drivers and software section?

I emailed to ask the situation but they haven't answered back. So I don't
know whether to purchase this DX5000 all in one or not now. Its pointless
getting it if they haven't got proper Vista drivers and software listed for
it on their website - I don't want to end up buying it only to find out it
wont work with Vista or that they don't bring out the proper Vista drivers
and software with it.

I wish these kind of companies got their acts together and produced the
necessary updates for Vista when the BETA vista software came out last year
so that they would have the drivers and software all ready to download when
the final version came out without what situation we have now with the final
retail version of Vista out and a lot of manufacturers haven't got vista
drivers and application software for their products even listed on their
websites yet.

I'm amazed that X83 drivers will be coming out at all. I have had mine for
about 2 years. If they come out with drivers, I would say that's a feather
in their cap. You should reconsider.
