I've intstalled Win xp, and required uninstalling Lexmark X83 printer. Reinstalling X83 with original set up disks won't work, It partialy installs, with NO INF files or drivers...So microsoft recommeneded going to manufacturers web site for updated downloads for printer set up, wich I did and downloaded and installed...Well I got further this time but near the end it said that there was a conflict, drivers not signatured w/windows logo??? To make a long story short, the down loaded setup from L:exmark will not work...Lexmark X83 is a good printer, it worked excellent w/win Me, but I have been trying for days trying to re-install this printer, says how much I know. I know its a conflict problem, Xp won't load Lexmark's setups for some reason....

I"m not familiar with Lexmark printers but a few general points. Do Lexmark
have instructions for upating, downloading and installing the XP driver?
They may have a special program for forcing difficult uninstalls. When you
do install make sure that all other programs( on the task bar ) are
closed--especially any Anti Virus ones. The complaint by Microsoft re the
driver not being digitally signed can usually be ignored, its only a warning

Well, I used a x-83 on xp for about a year, no problems.
Make sure your usb cable is not connected til it tells you to plug it
in.
When you see continue anyway as a option, always click it.
Restart your pc before you try to use it.
After it's back on, unplug the usb cable. Then plug it in again. This
will trigger a printer wizard screen to pop up.
Click next until it ask if you have the cd disk that came with the
printer. Answer yes, and follow the directions. I think you put the cd
in (which ever one it tells you to put in).
When you se those pages flying from one folder to the next, wait til
the pages stop flying. It's installed.
Just do the lst couple of things it says, like click finished
It can be done, I've installed the x83 on xp dozens of times. Good
luck
