Let me choose to always open in print layout, not reading layout

Each new iteration of WORD makes it more cumbersome and less useful. I NEVER
want to see a document in "Reading Layout", yet each document opens that way
automatically. I need the option of selecting which View I want a document
to open in every time.

More annoying, however, is the fact that everytime I change a font for a
selected portion of a document, WORD automatically changes the entire
document. I have spent hours selecting various options to prevent this from
happening, but to no avail. Let me tell WORD what I want it to do instead of
having it do things on its own. I have gone to Adobe products for most
activities because WORD has become so frustrating to use.

Turn off Reading Layout:
Go to Tools | Option | General Tab
Uncheck "Allow starting in Reading Layout"
Click OK

Normal style set to automatically update:
Go to Format | Styles and Formatting
Right click NORMAL in the list
Choose Modify
Uncheck the Automatically update checkbox (bottom right)

Do this for any other styles that you use regularly.
