since upgrading to windows vista, the pad mouse on my vista capable dell
inspiron 6400 has lost some of its features! i can no longer use the side and
bottom of the pad to scroll through pages as you would with a mouse wheel,
and i cant disable to mouse pad when ps/2 mouse is connected. any ideas as to
why this is and any way of solving it?

Your touchpad mouse may only be operating on a generic PS/2 driver from
Microsoft (check Device Manager). Download the Vista touchpad driver from
Dell for your particular notebook model. A non-generic driver will give
you the correct options in Control Panel > Mouse Properties for your
particular touchpad hardware.

Visit your download page at Dell, change the operating system list to Vista
and get the Vista drivers for your model and hardware. Check for other Vista
drivers you need while you are there, too. Just be sure to choose only the
drivers for the hardware you actually have. Every possible hardware device
for your model will be listed. BTW, you can't use a PS2 mouse with your
computer. Did you mean USB mouse?
