legal scanning

i am trying to scan a 8x14 document but when it scans it scans to letter
size. and cuts off part of my document. how can it fix this.

1) Buy a more expensive scanner that has 8.5 X 14 or larger capabilities.
2) Downsize the document on a QUALITY copy machine with a GOOD toner
cartridge.
3) Scan the document in piece work with four scans.

My scanner has 8x14 capabilities, but scanning program does not reconize it.
