I'm trying to install a game (Chessmates) on a WinXP system for a school. It installs on Win98, no problem. The Win3.0 version seems to install fine, but is a lower quality installation.

I know there is a way to run applications in "compatability mode", is there also a way to install such?

Thanks in advance,
~MK

Well, I guess that's about the same as I've tried already.

When attempting to install the error message reads:
"The procedure entry point SUnMapLS_IP_EBP_12 could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll."

I'm guessing that when we're talking Kernel errors we're talking SOL. Still, I'd be soooo relieved to hear that there is a solution other than purchasing 24 new CD's.

The Windows 3.1 version installs but causes a GPF when attempting to run.

Thanks again for your attempt, Mary.

Afraid so. Sounds as if that program is (stupidly) written to use some
entry that existed, unofficially, in the Windows 3 kernel but not any

Best thing of course would be to check for a fully XP compatible
version of the software.

We have some software that produces similar results at install time but
we're given the choice to retry, ignore, or cancel. If we ignore the
errors (there are several) it installs and runs ok anyway.
