Left over pagefile

I turned off the page file on one drive to put it on a larger drive. After
defragging the smaller drive it has the remnants of a 1.2 Gig pagefile.sys
listed as fragmented files. I did a search and it did not show up.

My question is can the space be reclaimed and how is the leftover
pagefile.sys be removed?

There has to be a pagefile on the boot drive, usually drive C. If you have
created a pagefile on a different drive, then manually set the size of the
pagefile on your boot drive to a smallish number. I don't recall how small
it can be, but 100 Meg comes to mind. If you turn off the pagefile on the
boot drive, it'll just create one for you, and that's probably what your'e
seeing. And also not seeing <g>.
Pagefile.sys is a Hidden, System file so you have to set search to be
able to see those attributes.

Open a command prompt window (start - run - CMD) and enter the
following command: (assuming that the smaller drive is drive D:)

DIR D:\PAGEFILE.SYS /A /S

That will show you if there is still an existing pagefile.sys on that
drive. Your problem could be that you have Windows Explorer set to
"Do not show hidden files and folders" in Tools - Folder Options -
View.

Good luck

Thank you for the solution to my problem. I was able to find and delete the
unwanted pagefiles on two of my three HDs. Again, thanks I appreciate your
help.
