I installed a program the day I got my new xp and 2 days later decided to
remove it. went to control panel, add/remove programs and uninstalled the
program. Now I have a file folder in the Program Files folder that I cannot
get rid of---program is no longer installed but folder remains... I get error
message "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." I
really want to get rid of that pesky folder ..... any help out there

Go to Start>Run type: msconfig select Startup and see if the
program is listed there. If yes, Uncheck.
" " "" " " regedit Navigate to
Hkey_Local_Machine\Software. If program folder is there delete it
same for
Hkey_Current_User\Software.

If the poster was able to install the program wouldn't that indicate that he
has administrator rights? Unless the posters rights have been changed since
the program was installed.
Try renaming the file, then deleting it, although I don't know if that will
work.
If all else fails, reinstall the unwanted program, reads the uninstall
instructions..it might be that using add/remove programs is not the way to
remove their program.
