Left Mouse button does not work

On an Windows XP system I have the problem that
the right left mouse button doesn't work.
I tried PS/2, Serial and USB mice.
Loaded new drivers. The problem was the same.

Can someone give me a hint, what might be wrong?
 
Yes, the other buttons work.
When I select the mouse for left handed people I can
work normal with the left button as it was the right one.
Of course the left functionallity doesn't work
