LeechGet referer info?

T

Terrence Chun, MD

I have tried a number of download accelerator programs and am currently using the
liteware version of LeechGet.

I have not been able to get it to capture downloads from www.the-underdogs.org, as they
have a few HTML hoops to jump through before the link is downloaded. They offer
instructions on how to get other programs (GetRight, NetVampire) to work, by setting
particular "referer" information. In particular: "note that if you use download managers, you
must now change referrer information to http://www.the-underdogs.org/downloadfile.php".

Has anyone had success in getting LeechGet to work in these situations?

Thanks!

HA! I think all D/L managers have problems with referring links. I tried the
latest version of LeechGet and it actually resolved file links better than
average. However it was quite unstable and quirky, so I dumped it.

Ah, the Underdogs. I've pretty much given up on them after their
continuous updating of antileech policies, but here are two scenarios
that seem to work:

1) Download Express
http://www.metaproducts.com/mp/mpProducts_Detail.asp?id=18

Not a nice interface and a bit flashy. Take care not to split the
download (1 part only) , input the code in the box and Ctrl+Alt+left
mouse button on the <GO> link. This works as long as the code remains
the same. If it changes in the middle of a download, you have to find
the solution yourself.

2) Wget http://xoomer.virgilio.it/hherold/
GUI http://www.jensroesner.de/wgetgui/

Penguins of the world unite. It may be cold in hell until you manage
to make this one work to your liking. On the other hand, it requires
no install, no changes to the registry etc. You have to find a way to
actually get the DL link and the whole process is a pain, but it is
anyway what this little masochist uses for that site. Impressive
little son-of-a-program.

This lengthy response is more of a call for a better solution really.

unobtrusive operation without apparent conflict
Gets the job done. Integrated well with SecureIE and overrode SIE
download without incident. Seems to be just what the doctor prescribed
as I'm on a USB cell connection at 115200 (in theory) which bogs down
to 3 kb/s from my server. Now it appears I'm actually getting about
the same as a 56k. Bravo!

Hey, not Freeware! :(
