Ledger page size in PowerPoint

Marc Lefebvre

Hey all,

I was wondering if it is a known bug in PowerPoint when the page size for
the Ledger page layout shows as 13.32in. x 9.99in. when I think it should be
15.99 x 9.99 or something close to that!

The 8.5 x 11 is set to 7.5in x 10in, the 8.5 x 17 is set to 7.5 x 16,
shouldn't the ledger size follow the same pattern of a 1in. border and be 10
x 16?

Any info is appreciated!

See below...
I suspect it's less a bug than a design decision that doesn't make sense if
we're not party to the logic that led to it.

This does presume that "logic" was part of the design decision. I'm never sure this
actually comes into play...
****
I don't see 8.5x17 as an option, but most of the other page setups (not all)
are a 1.333... aspect ratio. My guess is that it's done this way so you can
change page sizes w/o distorting the graphics on your slides.

Assuming that's what's going on, and allowing for a 1" border on ledger paper,
10 (why 9.99 instead? dunno!) x 13.32 gives a 1.3333... aspect ratio.

That's my theory. For what it's worth.
****
I always end up resetting it, and it is annoying. I agree; I think it should be a
consistent pattern of borders. If I'm doing something 11x17, it is not intended to be a
visual presentation, it is intended to be part of a poster series or something else for
which PowerPoint is also well-suited.

Is it safe to say that this is actually a Microsoft problem or issue?
Should someone be notified and a fix be worked on?

Or Broken As Designed.

The problem is that even when bad designs are created, the fact that it is working "as
designed" is used as an excuse to not fix things. Nobody actually admits that just
*maybe* the design was wrong...
joe

I doubt it. It's working as designed, or so it would seem.

Considering that you can set the page size to any custom size you'd like, it doesn't seem
that the existing design prevents you from printing to full 11x17 pages; just type the new
dimensions you want into the page setup dialog box.
