"LDAP bind error 31" with child domain

Hi all

we have 3 DC, 2 for one domain and 1 for a child domain. All are running
W2K. We want to upgrade on W2K3 and when I run DCDIAG.EXE /e
/test:frssysvol, I get:

Testing server: Bern\FILE-SERVER-1
Starting test: Connectivity
[FILE-SERVER-1] LDAP bind failed with error 31,
A device attached to the system is not functioning..
......................... FILE-SERVER-1 failed test Connectivity

From the child DC work this command without problem.


I try some tips found on http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBM/tip6000/rh6049.htm
and http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBO/tip7100/rh7145.htm without result.

Have any poeple an idea ?

Most of the 31's I've seen in my day are due to:
0) dns issues
1) time skew problems
2) lack of "access this computer from the network" right for the user trying
to perform the bind
3) machine account passwords out of sync

Perhaps others have seen other causes too.
