LCD problem

I am having trouble getting my LCD to project with my new notebook using XP
Home Edition. I have gone into Display and extended setting for external
monitor but all I get is the screensaver with no icons. When I run programs
I get nothing.
When I hook the LCD to my old laptop with Win 98, everything works
immediately.

Any advice on how to get this going!

Not all notebook video adapters support extended desktop. Most do
support monitor switching. You will have to do some research on your
model and its video adapter to determine its exact capabilities. The
advanced button on the display properties takes you to the adapter
properties. See what that offers.

If the laptop only supports monitor switching, there is usually a
function key combination that does it. Look on the function keys below
the F2, F3... in blue or grey for LCD/VGA and another with VGA/LCD.
These are often Function Key + F7 and Function Key + F8, respectively.
