Lavasoft adware download problem

I am having a devil of time getting rid of web page that my comp is booting
to. I used to go directly to msn now it is a webpage for sundating.net. I
have to type in msn to go there. I can't get rid of this page and it is
pissing me off. I have downloaded SPybot and that seems to be working fine.
I tried to download Lavasoft adware killer the free version. I download it
fine but when I start the scan it gives a fatal RPC error and restarts my
computer in 59 secs. What is the deal with this does anyone know a fix for
this? I am also running Symatec and it is updated currently. thanks for any
and all help.

Run both Spybot and Lavasoft in SAFE mode.

I'm not sure why you are having trouble with Ad-aware, but uninstall it
and download it again. Reinstall it and update its definitions. Here
are general malware removal steps. Do all work with updated tools in
Safe Mode.

1) Scan in Safe Mode with current version (not earlier than 2003)
antivirus using updated definitions.

2) Remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware. These
programs are free, so use them both since they complement each other.
There is a new version of CWShredder from Intermute. I would not
install the other Intermute programs, however. Alternately, there are
CoolWebSearch malware removal steps at SilentRunners.

Be sure to update these programs before running, and it is a good idea
to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode. Make sure you are able to see
all hidden files and extensions (View tab in Folder Options).

HijackThis is an excellent tool to discover and disable hijackers, but
it requires expert skill. See below for HijackThis links. A combination
of HijackThis and About:Buster works well in removing the About:Blank
homepage hijacker. Again, this is an expert tool and novices should get
help with it.

3) If you are running Windows ME or XP, you should disable/enable System
Restore because malware will be in the Restore Points. With ME, you
must disable System Restore completely. With XP, you can delete all but
the most recent (presumably clean) System Restore point from the More
Options section of Disk Cleanup (Run>cleanmgr).

4) Make sure you've visited Windows Update and applied all security
patches. Do not install driver updates from Windows Update.

5) Run a firewall.

Hi DanR, thanks for the reply but I can't figure out how to start my computer
in safe mode. It is a Compaq and there is no user prompt when restarting the
computer. I went into the set up menu but didn't see anything for starting
in safe mode. Any hints will be greatly appreciated.
PS I hate Sundating.net

After the initial Compaq flash screen, start hitting F8 and a menu will
appear, white letters on a black screen. Choose safe mode and hit enter.

I did what Alias said to do to get into safe mode. I was hitting F8 but I
guess not enough when I did the first reboot. I have run both programs in the
safe mode with the System Restore turned off. I am still getting that web
page from Sundating.com. How frustrating is that! My comp. doesn't seem to
be any faster not that it was slow to begin with. Occasionally when surfing
to a bookmarked web site undersirable pics will pop up on my computer. I am
no prude but some of this stuff is down right horrible. Point being is that
none of this ever happened until the computer started booting to the
Sundating.net web page. I have talked to my service provider and the tech is
the one that initially clued me into to the free downloads at ms. She stated
the pop ups are adware pop ups. Maybe it won't happen now that I have run
both programs for SW and AW. Any extra help is appreciated and appreciate
all so for.
