Latest Worm Threat

I was told by a friend I needed to download a patch for
today's worm infecting Microsoft. I have Windows XP.
When I download any Microsoft updates, I'm told there
aren't any critical updates just general updates. How
can this be? I do have McAfee's virus software installed
which updates all the time. Is that protecting me?

You may already have the patch.
To check:
Start/All Programs/Windows Update.
Click "View Installation history"
Look for 823980
