just cleaned a virus

M

Mr. Mike

I need help with locating a patch to prevent a recurrance
of a virus.

My McAfee anti-virus program just cleaned a virus off my
system. McAfee referred me to Microsoft to get this
patch:

Security Bulletin MS03-011

When I go to Microsoft and find the page for this
Security Bulletin, I am directed to search for patches by
using "update". When my system is checked for necessary
critical updates, I am told that there are none available
or needed at this time. Yet, my system got infected by a
virus exploiting this program.

How the heck do I download the appropriate patch???

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hello
What kind of virus is it.
Sounds to me like you need to update your virus protection.

Here is the info on the virus:

- Corporate Users: Low

Date Discovered: 4/9/2003

Date Added: 4/22/2003

Evidently I got it by clicking on a java applet on a
website.

The patch for Exploit-ByteVerify does not work!
McAfee should be able to catch this in "real time" (as
you bring up an infected web page) and be able to stop
it.Be sure that your definitons are current and the
browser you are using is set to the default browser.

This patch has been out for some time and shame on
Microsoft for letting people believe that they are
protected when they are really not.

Speaking of McAfee, I've noticed quite a few preloaded systems that have a
pretty odd setup for the antivirus. They have a link to do an online scan
through McAfee, but there's no real-time protection. On first glance, it
certainly looks like there's AV protection, but in reality, it's almost
useless, and certainly deceptive.
