Latest Update - installing forever

Dear Help Group,

I have been trying to install the LATEST updates for MS Windows XP SP2. I
use Internet Explorer>Windows Update. The updating process starts and I
read in the window "Initializing installation..." and it stays there
forever. I have left the computer overnight for more than 14 hours and
still does not install. Can anyone suggest what to do?

Are you getting any error messages? Is this the first time you have this
problem?
Three ideas
1) Read this reference starting at the Resolution section

2) If you are trying to install all the recent Updates at once, perhaps try
installing one by one--especially starting with an update other than the one
where you are getting stuck. What is the KB number of the update which
sticks?
3) MS offers free online and telephone help for issues concerning Windows
