LaserJet 6MP Sleep Mode

I've just upgraded my ancient LaserJet 4ML to an old LaserJet 6MP

The 4ML went into sleep mode and awoke with no problems (all printer lights
out in sleep mode).

However the 6MP doesn't seem to go into sleep mode. The ready light
(closest to the front) stays on even when the PC is turned off overnight.

I've even tried unplugging the parallel cable at the PC and leaving it
overnight - the light remained on.

btw I'm assuming that when the 6MP goes into sleep mode all the lights
should be out.

Should all the lights go out in sleep mode and does anyone have any
thoughts as to why the 6MP is not going into sleep mode ?

Paul:

As long as mine is plugged into the power outlet, the first green
light remains on at all times. Same as with my 5 MP.

It looks like the light being on all the time is the normal state ...
