laser printer prints color but not black

someone gave me a used Kyocera copier / laser color printer. It
worked for a few months went through about 2 black toners, suddenly
the pages started coming out blank....and I mean blank, not a spec of
black on the paper. The color prints out fine, if I copy a magazine
with color and black text, the black text isn't there but the color
around it is. There is no error codes what so ever and I ran I test
to manually turn off and on all the motors and they all seem to be
functioning

Any ideas on what can cause this? I can fix it myself if someone can
give me a few ideas what to look for and I have a service /
maintenance manual.

Its a Kyocera KM-C830

I don't have the manual for this model, I do have a manual for the KM-C850
which is very similar I believe.
The best I can see is that the black Magnet Solenoid is not operating. There
are 4 such solenoids, one for each colour. Most other components are common to
all the colours so if they failed would affect all colours. I have not ever
seen one of these and so cannot help much. The magnet is driven my the main
circuit board so if it is not the magnet then the main board may have failed.
If you can get the covers off you could look for connectors to the solenoids
and make sure they are OK, it may be possible to swap the connectors between
the solenoids for Black and one other colour, if the other colour then fails to
print the problem is in the main board otherwise the solenoid.
Sorry, a bit sketchy but the best I can offer.
