Large Picture Folders Cause Crash?

Whenever (almost always) I open a folder that has alot (perhaps 70 or 80) of pictures, all of the open folders close and I'm back to the desktop. Is this a crash? Can it be prevented? How can I open the folder then to break up the set of photos into smaller folders if that would help? Is there a maximum number of documents or a maximum total size for a folder

Thank

I don't think it has to do with the number of photos, 80 is not very many.
What folder do you have these pictures in? What format are the pictures?
What are you using to view the pictures and what do mean by all the folder
close... what "all folders" are you referring to? If I open window explorer
and go to my pictures folder and click on the folder, I have well over 200
pictures in several folders and I can view thumbnails easily as well as the
list. Maybe you have a bad file that's causing the problem.
