Large files on Desktop

Hello

The system administrator of my compagny said that it's not a problem to save
large data (3 or 4 Go) on the desktop of windows XP.

I can't remember where i saw it but I read that if you put large files
directly on your desktop it can be decrease the performance of your windows.

Do you know ?

This is mainly on networks with Roaming Profiles, sine the files, if
modified, would have to be copied to and from the server each logon.

Additionally it's also applicable to slower systems of yore. Loading your
desktop (local profile only) with all sorts of fun things and giant images
for backgrounds and using active desktop to display weather really isn't a
problem any more. It used to be but unless there's a network involved most
modern PCs deal with it just fine.
