large files not leaving outbox, sending multiple copies

This has been posted many times I see with no resolution and often no reply. This is killing my ability to do business with some of my customers as I must be able to send e-mails with large photo attachments

The problem seems to kick in at files over .5 M

I attempt to send an attachment and the files sits in my outbox and shows that it is trying to send the message - nearly complete but never 100%. It will send as many messages as possible as long as the computer is on. The origianl never leaves the Outbox

Can someone PLEASE help us!? My customers are getting very annoyed and I am wasting an incredible amount of time

This happens from my home system - wireless router/cable modem as well as from the road - ethernet cable/DSL.

Also, I send and receive from two different SMTP (POP3) servers with the same results. The only constant is the
XP/Outlook combination

No relief in zipping the files either

I disabled McAfee VIrus Scan and Firewall. When I sent the message it went almost instantly to "send/receive status 100% with the blue bar in the graphics display of the "Details" box apperaing to be all the way to the right indicating a nearly completed task. At this point it actually says "1 out of 1 has completed succesfully"

It never moved the file out of the Outbox however and began trying to send the message again about a minute later. AT this point it now says "1out of 2 has completed succesfully"

Now a third attempt has begun and now the first two no longer show "processing" but now "error". Then a third, and again a fourth, a fifth and a sixth

Error messages as follows - bear with me as I cannot cut and paste from the "details" box

! Task 'myaccount - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B): 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message , contact your server administrator or ISP

Ended up with 0 of 6 attempts completed succesfully

I have my Scheduled Send/Receive disabled. I tried this from both my standard ISP account (Comcast) and from my e-mail account hosted by my website host (not Comcast). Both are standard POP3 accounts

This situation never occured with Windows ME, which I had on the computer until a few months ago, using the exact same ISP's, McAfee, etc

Sorry for the length of the post but I am trying to give you as much information as possible. I GREATLY appreciate the time you are taking to help

A little more info that pinpoints this to being an Ooutlook or XP issue. I copied one of the files I was trying to send to disc and downloaded it to my old Windows 98 desktop. I sent the file from that computer and it went through in a snap with no errors. Same e-mail addresses, same ISP (Comcast)

Forgot to mention that I left McAfee enabled when sending from the desktop so I believe that should eliminate that as a culprit

Dan - I have expereinced the same problems. I had a hunch it has something to do with McAfee 8 as that was the only thing different on my laptop also a Sony running XP Home and Outlook 2003. I noticed also that it was on the larger e-mails. I beleive if you disable McAfee it will work fine. I have since uninstalled McAfee and went with Norton (for many reasons not just this particular one) and i have not had the problem since. Good luck..
