Hi,

I have this problem with med Acer TravelMate 8004LMi laptop, using
WinXP Pro. When I connect the laptop to the powersupply the laptop
starts some processes which heats up my harddrive and further more when
the harddrive is getting hot, the fan starts.
When the processes run, I can clearly hear the harddrive work, however
I haven't got any idea of what it is doing.

I haven't got any firewall, antivirus or other programs which run
runtines when the system isn't in use.

I hope somebody have a clue of what is going on.

Thanks

I have 2gb ram in it, so it shouldn't be a problem with the ram.

How can i check if it is one of the other proposals you had?

Get Process Explorer and when the unknown activity starts, have a look in
the list. This should tell you exactly what is using CPU cycles, in
detail that the Task Manager does not.
