I have a Gateway laptop running XP Media Edition. For a month now it comes
out of sleep and hibernation without my doing. I can not think of anything I
have updated or changed. Anyone have any solutions?
Thanks

"Wake on LAN" is a setting in some BIOS setups. The Properties of some NIC
devices in Device Manager will have a checkbox for that.

bios setup access keys. Go to:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm
Device Manager: Click start, type 'devmgmt.msc' and hit enter

Right click My Computer Icon and select properties. On the system properties
click on Hardware then click on Device manager.
On Device Manager Right click on your network (Ethernet) (or whatever
Adapter you are using to connect to the internt) icon Select Properties.
Click Power management Tab and make sure these check boxes not checked:
[ ] Allow the Computer to turn off this device to save power.
[ ] Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby.
[ ] Only......etc.
click [OK] and see if that will help.

If you still having problem try this to Check the settings in the BIOS, and
disable things like wake on lan or wake on any key etc.

Hibernation problem on computers with 1 GB of RAM
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330909

Click Start >> Control panel >> Power Options >> Power Schemes:

System Hibernate [ Never ] [V] [ After 45 mins ] [V]

Then under Hibernate Tab:
Hibernate:
[ ] Enable Hibernation.

Noe some Security software may be get the computer out of hibernation to
make updates to its defs or a screen saver!
