This does not provide sound however, can anyone give me the anwer to this?
Do I need another cable? If so which one.
Thanks,

The only video standard I know of, that carries audio with video,
is something like HDMI. At least it is pretty common, relatively
speaking. There is also DisplayPort, but few of those exist yet.

If you want sound for some of the older interface options, you'd
connect the headphone jack or the Line_out jack from the laptop,
to your HD TV audio. If the HD TV has RCA jacks on it (one for Left,
one for right), you'd have to go to RadioShack and get a 1/8" stereo
miniplug to dual RCA adapter. Then some male to male RCA (Cinch?)
cables would complete the hookup (preferably not "Monster" brand
cables).

Example of computer 1/8" to RCA adapter pictured here. The jacks
are female, and the jacks on the HD TV are likely female as well.
Which is why you'll need male to male cables for the audio. The
audio cable is $3, and doesn't need gold connectors to work.

Hi,

That is D-SUB (analogue VGA) which does not carry sound. As Paul stated
HDMI is design to carry sound as well, however not all computers do so.

Check on your laptop what ports are available. 99% chance that there will
be audio out based on mini-jack. However we do not know your TV, so we
cannot give you definitive answer but chance should be that TV-input for
your VGA port is either mini-jack or Phono (RCA).

15 pin Dsub is video only, audio is separate.
On mine audio out on laptop is via mini stereo jack and audio in on TV is
red and white phono RCA plugs.
You'll need a cable with those at either end.
