Hi
I have a IBM laptop(with windows XP), the screen is a bit small so I
connected it to a 19" monitor, but every time when I close the
laptop, the laptop goes into hibernate statu
How do I use the external monitor while my laptop is closed, I dont
want to have two same monitors on my desk

Purchase a proper dock for the laptop.

Try this, Go to Power Options in Control Panel. Click on Advanced tab.
Under Power buttons, "When I close the lid........ click the dropdown and
select Do nothing. OK out and see if that fixes your issue.

Awful expensive fix when a simple settings change will do (as outlined by

*May* do it.
Not all laptops will still display to external monitors when they are
closed - whether you turn them off or not per settings.

Depends on the laptop in question. The dock solution - always will work.

Except when the laptop manufacturer doesn't sell a dock for that particular
laptop. Not all IBM laptops will dock.
I personally own a Dell, two Averatecs (all purchased within the last two
years) and an older Sager laptop (purchased more than 5 years ago but still
going strong) and only the Sager had the docking port on the laptop. The
dock was almost more expensive than the laptop.
