Laptop locks up

I have a Sony laptop running XP Home which locks up
randomly. It might lockup at start up, after running
any program, during internet browsing, or whenever it
chooses. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.
It could be as soon as I turn it on, or after several
hours of use.
Any ideas or help appreciated.

1st. thing to check would be hve you loaded any new
software or hardware prior to the lockups. if so remove
it and see if that corrected the problem.

Do you see anything in your event logs? Have you tried contacting Sony
support?

In all probability, a hardware fault (laptops get moved around and will
eventually fail). Could be overheating also. Check that the vents are
clear. Check with Sony for diagnostic help.

The event logs show the system hanging, but I'm not sure
how to interpret them, or what to do with the info.
