laptop duplicates e-mails

I just bought a new lap-top and it duplicates all my Outlook e-mails. If I
erase the e-mails in my desk top, when I open the lap-top, the e-mails
returned.

How do I stop the e-mails from being duplicated???

The two installations are entirely seperate
It depends on the type of account & how that account is configured as to
what is seen on the second PC

What type of account, Exchange, pop, Imap or ?

thanks for the replied: the accounts are pop, both computers are dell, if it
matters and the program is vista. BellSouth is the provider.
any ideas? I deleted the e-mails from the desk top. A few days later, if I
openned the laptop, all deleted e-mails showed up in the laptop. The bottom
line is, that if I don't delete the e_mails from both computers, I might end
up with hundres of e-mails. I can cancel the e-mails in the laptop, but I
think that, that there is another solution to this problem.
Suggestions????

Pop mail downloads all mail from the server to your mail app, if your
account, in outlook is set to leave a copy on the server, then the mail will
be held on the server and will be downloaded again to your other device.
Outlook is simply a mail client, it is not a mail account. What you do with
your email in Outlook on one PC, is entirely seperate from Outlook on your
other PC.

If you want to keep the two outlook instalations in sync then you should
look at third party pay for tools, many are shown on www.slipstick.com

Log into your Yahoo account (supplied because you use AT&T (Bell South)) and
move the contents of your Inbox to another server-side folder. Outlook will
then not be able to download them on the new PC.
