Laptop doesn't return from standby mode

Sometime I put my laptop on stand by and then close the
screen. I turn on the screen, move the mouse a bit, and
the computer does not come back from standby mode. I try
to press the power button and nothing happens. The only
way for me to go back into window is to remove and reput
the battery while the laptop is still running. I wonder
if there's a reason to why this is happening and if
there's a way to reduce this problem. Thank you for your
time.

I am experiencing the same issue. I believe it started after a Microsoft update about three months ago. Prior to this I had no problem.

I have an inspirion 1705, recently bought (Jan 07) and i see the same issues. After hibernate/standby, the pc does not reutrn and I have observed in the Task manager that "System" is using 100% cpu utilization. I have not figured out why (maybe dell help support), but I can appreciate anyone's help on this.

thanks
