Lap Top not used for 2 years

I have a lap top not used for two years. I have the password

When I turn it on I get a page headed Hardware Profile/Configuration Recovery Menu

I can access XP from there but it will not recognise my password and allow me to log on

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction for help................I am losing the will to live!
