LAN slow to find memebers

Win XP-Pro SP3
When I use WinExplorer (file manager) to connect to other
computers in my five machine LAN, it takes 30-90 seconds
before the computers are shown. "Back in the day" of
Win98SE, adjusting the LAN detection, file sharing and
TCP/IP settings (LM Master, etc), stopped what I assume is
"data storming."
How do I specify one XP machine as MASTER and the others as
secondaries so they allow for faster
detection/connection/sharing?

What you want to do is to stop the Computer Browser service on all but one or
two of your computers. If you have one computer that's guaranteed to be on and
online 7 x 24 x 52, make that your single browse master. If not, pick the two
most online computers, and make them alternate browse masters.
