Unable to access internet thru LAN

T

Ted

I have a 2-computer LAN, each running Windows XP Home SP2. Computer A is
connected to the internet wirelessly. I can access the internet from A.
Computers A & B are connected via ethernet LAN. I can share files between the
two. However, I cannot access the internet from B thru A. I have run the
Network Setup Wizard specifying that A is connected directly to the internet
and B is connected via another computer on the LAN (the wizard does not ask
me which computer). The local area connections on both A & B are configured
with static IP addresses (192.168.0.1 & 192.168.0.2) There is no DNS address
for either. (I could not use the option to Obtain an IP Address
Automatically. The LAN connections would not work.) The wireless connection
does use the options to Obtain an IP Address Automatically and DNS Server
Automatically.

What do I need to do to allow internet access from Computer B thru the LAN
and Computer A?
Thanks.

Ted,

When you ran the NSW on Computer A, did you specify
"This computer connects directly to the Internet. The other computers on my
network connect to the Internet through this computer."

Part of the benefit of ICS (which is what you get from the above selection) is
DHCP. Why is Computer B using a static IP address?

Enable Internet Connection Sharing on Computer A's wireless connection
in Properties > Advanced. If it asks what to use for the home network
connection, tell it to use the Ethernet LAN connection.

Then, configure Comptuer B's Ethernet LAN connection to obtain an IP
address and DNS server automatically. With Internet Connection
Sharing enabled, A will provide the configuration for B.

Yes, I did specify that Computer A was directly connected to the internet and
others would connect thru A. When I checked out the status of the network
connection on A, it said it was configured for ICS.
I have configured bot computers with static IP addresses because when I
opted for automatic assignment of IP and DNS, the connections never obtained
IP addresses. They sat in a state of atemptint to get an IP address and then
displayed the message "little or no connectivity".

I will follow the suggestions from you and others on Monday when I get back
to the computers and let you know if I make progress. Thanks for everyone's
help so far.

Chuck,
I am now having serious trouble getting internet connection wirelessly from
my Computer A. The wireless signal status says "Very Good". Nevertheless, I
sometimes get quick response (i.e, return of the requested web page),
sometimes very slow, and often a message that the page cannot be displayed.
This is new since I last posted.

On the subject of LAN-based computers sharing the internet access over the
LAN thru an ICS computer, can that ICS computer be wirelessly connected to
the internet?

Finally, here are the IPCONFIG/ALL details from Computers A and B.
