LAN cable is unplugged message

Windows tells me my LAN local cable is unplugged.

Other than actually being unplugged what else can cause that message.

Maybe a bad parameter someplace?

Thanks

Yes. Anything that prevents the "handshake" protocol to establish a
connection could do it. Basically it means there isn't any signal to work
with, regardless of the cause of that situation. The cabling is the first
thing to check, that's all.

Hello,

The following scenarios can also cause the 'Network cable is unplugged'
message:

1) A bad/broken cable
2) Network adapter defect
3) The cable being disconnected on the other end i.e. wall socket, router,
switch etc

Sorry to piggyback onto someone else's post, but can you think of anything
else that might do it? I'm having a similar problem: my computer will not
recognize having a CAT-5 cable plugged into it. It was working before a
minor physical rearranging of the network (finally got cables run through my
walls rather than all over the floor), but it's not the physical connection
that's the problem; unplugging the cable from the back of my computer and
plugging it right into a laptop lets the laptop go online, no problem. Tried
disabling and re-enabling the onboard LAN controller. Tried installing a PCI
LAN card (and driver) and using that. Tried uninstalling the onboard LAN
controller and reinstalling it. No dice.

Any ideas?
