lack of Java installation

It appears that the version of WindowsXP Home Edition that
was installed on my computer does not have windows
installed or not available on the install disk(vendor has
the disks)

I have received messages telling me that I am missing Java
or the VM portion of it.

I do not keep track of all the MS events but I do remember
something about them excluding Java or the VM because they
wanted to. I also seem to remember that they have
been 'told' to include it now.

Is there a reliable method to get an appropriate copy of
what is missing? I do not have a broadband link so a
download of 100's of megas of data would not be feasible.

Thanks Much

Actually they took java out because they were forced to by a court order
from Sun, the owners of Java.

You can download a version of the Sun Java VM (which these days is better
than the MS one anyway) from www.java.com.

AFAIK, no version of XP has the Java VM installed, or on the disc.
SP1 (not SP1a), had the MS virtual machine, SP1a does not.

Wrong war round. They have been told to no longer distribute the
Microsoft version of the Java VM.

Java has one, about 5 megs download. the MS one is somewhere too,
never bothered, since the Sun on works for me.
