Korean IME & internet explorer 6

Guest

I'm running Windows XP and have IE6. Problem is that I cannot input Korean
characters using the IME in IE6. However, IME works with MSWord, MSExcel,
etc. I think this malfunction started after I had installed a spyware/adware
application called Spy Doctor. Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi Janet :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

First of all, take a look at the information here regarding Spy Doctor, you
should uninstall it.
http://netrn.net/spywareblog/archives/2004/08/01/spy-doctor-and-spyware-doctor/

The problem may also be due to a 3rd party plug-in or toolbar that is
affecting the functionality of Internet Explorer in the area of national
texts typing. If you have any of these, such as Google or Yahoo Toolbar,
disable them, or if you have Yahoo Companion uninstall it.
There is an updateable list of such plugi-ins here (select the English page
if necessary):

Also, some files may have been damaged or removed by the installation of Spy
Doctor, and you may need to repair IE. See the following for instructions:

First, disable your AV:

XP

The section

Explorer 6 works on earlier versions of Windows.

or...if needed....

Simplest repair for XPsp2 is
Start>Run> type in iexplore.exe /rereg
Click Enter

If that's not enough there are additional registrations given
in KB831429 for W2K which apply equally to XP. (e.g. NT5x)

Also....be sure to visit Windows Update site and let it scan for all needed
updates and service packs afterward.

Hope this helps :)
