Kodak EasyShare Version 6 will not install correctly

I have lots of problems with my PC at present. But one of the main ones is my
new camera and software.
I cannot get Kodak Easy Share Version 6 to work. There is an "catalogue file
needs to be upgraded" message upon opening the newly installed program. When
you click OK it just closes down.

Microsoft warns about installing the program initially but really it should
work and it has before. This newer program will not work with my old Windows
98 on an older PC.

It will load on to a laptop.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Version 6 is probably the XP Version. Go to their web site and chose the one
for Windows 98. I believe it is the 5.2 version.

http://wwwnz.kodak.com/global/en/service/downloads/dln_ekn026079.jhtml?pq-path=5224/4509

The latest version for XP is 6.2.0.197

I hope that helps.

I cannot help you other than to tell you I tried the Easyshare software when I
first bought my Kodak Camera.

Didn't take me long before I turfed the ES software due to problems with it
losing photo album file associations, making it a high-maintenance system of
organizing files.

Picasa for organizing photos works well.

http://picasa.google.com/

I wouldn't bother with the added Google Pack but your choice.

As Gord has written, I also used Easy Share for a while, but then stopped
using it. I see no real advantage in it. It is a while since I used it, so I
can't recall what else it does - either well or badly. Maybe I should even
uninstall it.

Uploads to the PC can be done quite easily using the USB cable - the camera
opens as a disk in My Computer and copying to wherever you want is as a
normal copy.

As for organising the photos, I (and my wife) just create folders and move
the pictures as we wish.

But if you like it, search for the latest and/or relevant edition at the
Kodak site as Serge has written.

Many thanks.

I downloaded Picasa last night and did some things with it so it looks great.

I have heard a few times that Easy Share isn't necessary I just didn't know
what else to use or how to transfer pics. SO I appreciate your help.

Thanks very much

Thank you for your prompt reply. I do appreciate the support given.

I have loaded Picasa and look forward to using it instead of Kodak software.
There is other redusing software I will look into too.

I have lots of other questions. This seems to be the place where I will get
the most support..Wonderful..

Cheers

What is "redusing software" ?

Do you mean reducing software, i.e. to reduce the size or resolution of fhe
image.

If so (or even if you don't) IrfanView is great: www.irfanview.com

I don't usually hang out in this newsgroup, but I find most MS newgroups are
fairly helpful. If you are new to digital photography, I MAY be able to
answer your queries, as I have been into it for a few years

BTW,
I opened Kodak EasyShare (Kodak EasyShare Center tab) and found that the
version for W98 is 5.2

But if you want to use other software (as I do) then I guess it doesn't
matter
