Device Manager Does Not Recognize Kodak EasyShare Camera

Purchased Microsoft Digital Image Suite 10 with intensions of making it
primary software to Import pictures from my Kodak EasyShare camera (DX6340).
Kodak EasyShare software works fine but would like to connect directly to
Digital Image Suite 10 software. Really puzzled why Device Manager does
recognize that I have a Kodak camera connected.

I presume this is a USB attached camera? When you plug it in, does Plug &
Play detect it? Does plug & play work for anything else? Do you have any
other working USB devices? Are you using a USB hub?

Note - you don't really need any of the graphics/photo software that comes
with a camera unless it does something really special for you. You can
usually just plug in your device, and when Windows detects it, it will show
up as another drive letter in Explorer - and you can just copy files to your
hard drive or wherever you like from there.

Windows has pretty decent graphics handling stuff built in, and if you want
more than that, something like Photoshop /Photoshop Elements will be a lot
better for more sophisticated image manipulation. But it's up to you. :)

Haggie,

I have a Kodak Camera that came with EasyShare software. I found that I was
better off uninstalling Kodak's software because it just got in the way and
did not really provide any benefits. Currently, I download the pictures
directly from the Kodak camera to My Pictures using the software that
Windows XP provides.

I use PictureIt 10 and Adobe PhotoShop Elements to touch up and adjust the
pictures to suit my needs.

I hope this helps,

Lee

I had the same problem with my Kodak easyshare, but I didn't use the USB port
- I plugged my memory card straight into the computer. After digging, my
computer said I had a "Code 10" error. After troubleshooting, it told me to
uninstall the program that recognizes the memory card, and reinstall it.

I've uninstalled it... but NO ONE has been able to help me find out where to
redownload the program. I e-mailed microsoft twice, and both times they
redirected me to outside sources. Can anyone help me? I'm not exactly sure
what I deleted because I assumed I could just go step by step with
troubleshooting until that utterly and completely failed -- now I don't even
think I have a device manager. Google hasn't helped yet, either. If anyone
can help, please please PLEASE reply!

I actually downloaded that already -- that was the first thing I tried. Still
not working -- does someone know where I can just find the program that reads
memory cards? I know it came with Microsoft XP Home Edition -- I definitely
shouldn't have uninstalled it, even though troubleshooting told me to do so.
Dell isn't helping, the customer service from Microsoft isn't helping... it's
kind of ridiculous. Makes me wish I knew more about computers, haha.

A couple of things to try:

- Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If any files are
damaged or missing, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot
afterwards so damaged files will be replaced.

- Go to the computer manufacturer website and see if there are any
patches, or downloads for the media ports.
