kick myself off if i become disconnected.

Hi
I connect to my work over a vpn and then use remote desktop on Winxp to
connect to a Win2000 server in admin mode.

Sometimes I become disconnected (through inactivity or whatever). When
I try to log in again sometimes it will reattach itself to my old
session but sometimes it will start a new session. However, if someone
else is already logged in (or forgotten to log off) and it tries to
create a new session it says that I have exceeded the max connections.

One suggestion is to use termial services manager. I dont have this on
my winxp machine so i copied the .exe from the server. However, when i
try to use it, it doesnt see any of the machines in my work domain. I
think this is because I am not actually part of the domain when I
connect over the VPN.

One thing I was doing was logging onto one of the other servers at
work, then loading ts manager, kicking myself off the server in
question and then logging off. However I no longer have access to this
server.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Kevin

To prevent this from happening in the future, you should configure
the server with a relatively short time-out on disconnected
sessions, and have the session reset when the time-out limit is
exceeded. This can be done in TS Configuration.
I would also set a time-out limit for idle sessions.
